NOVEMBER MEMORIES
MEMORIES FROM THE NOVEMBER 2007 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
The Nov. 2007 issue of Tri-V Umph had no reports of any members or extended family in ill health, a rare occurrence. The weather was finally cooling down some in Fl for Peg and Bob Wendt to begin enjoying the time there and were still awaiting word from Azaleas Park on their move. Congratulations were in order to Katie and Jim Trachsel on the birth of Ian on Oct. 12th, to Ellie and Terry Connolly on the birth of their fourth grandchild, Ryan, to son Chris and Kelly on Oct. 19th and to Marian and Lee Anderson on the birth of Summer on Oct. 3rd to son Bryan and Rebecca in Atlanta. Robyn Mackson competed in her marathon on Oct. 28th in Grand Rapids. She finished the 26.2 miles which was her goal and after completion she thinks this would be her one and only marathon.
Those traveling included Art Trachsel going from Sarasota to North Ft. Myers to spend Thanksgiving, Jan and Cal Cashman in San Diego to visit son Matt and Shirley and Bill Suchner also making a trip San Diego to visit their niece and two sons then back to MI to prepare for the trip to FL for the winter via Auto Train out of Lorton VA. Of course like every month Judy and John Lardin also were traveling somewhere. This time they along with Judy’s sister-in-laws to Akron OH to visit their counsin, then to IL for Thanksgiving with her Mom and a trip to Branson MO, than back to TX to celebrate grandson Jacob’s first birthday. Donna and John Clingerman shared their stressful experience their daughter, Beck, endured with the Peace Corps in Tanzania by one of the villagers with a 2 x 4. Thankfully she was not injured and was able to be transferred to a different village that was more advanced and more motivated to accept change. Upcoming events included the November social, a Pistons Basketball game on Dec. 7th, the Children’s Christmas Party on Dec. 2nd at F.B. Wright Co. in Dearborn and the Tri-V Wives Club Christmas Dinner on Dec. 12th at Giulio’s in Livonia. Pinochle standings after Oct./Nov. play had Jacqui Schaefer in first place with 50.5 points, Jane Trachsel in second place with 49.5 points and Jeff Trachsel in third place with 49 points. It has gotten to the point when I list the pinochle standings for the month as soon as I hit the letter “J” the computer automatically types in Jane Trachsel. She is good. We mentioned the loss of Fraser back in 2002. So many current members did not know him. Repeating what was wrote 10 years ago. Fraser was a purist. Play the game by the rules. Give a 6 inch putt on the golf course? Not a change! Play poker with wild cards? No way! Play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. That’s Fraser and that’s the Fraser we knew and loved.
MEMORIES FROM THE NOVEMBER 2012 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
We’re sorry to report the loss of member Dick Barnes who passed away while napping Oct. 12th. Dick is the father of club member Brett Barnes. Our prayers go out to Brett, Lynne and family.
Judy and John Lardin made their trip to Texas to celebrate granddaughter’s 8th birthday. The trip was very uncomfortable with the heat index of 101 degrees and to add insult to injury grandson Jacob came down with virus followed by Christine, then son Larry, Judy and finally John, not a fun trip. Judy and John spent veteran’s day in Lansing with some of John’s high school buddies and wives returning on Monday, November 12th for a2 day trip to Akron, OH to visit John’s cousin. Judy’s great niece and family will come in from IL for Thanksgiving. This will be a hard Thanksgiving as it is the first holiday, Mom, will not be with us.
The weekend of September 12th Bill and Onallee Trachsel, Tim and Karlyn Gies, Karen Thrift and Jeff Trachsel, Brett and Lynne Barnes, Jay and Liz Trachsel and Brian and Jane Trachsel travelled to Gladwin for a “sibling” weekend. Art Trachsel was able to join them during their stay.
The October stag was held on the 26th of Oct. at the Cadieux café in Detroit. There were 13 in attendance and all had a great time.
The November social will be on Nov. 17 at the Birmingham Village Player’s theatre to see the play “Sunset Boulevard” followed by dinner at Pasquale’s restaurant, Birmingham.
Kathy Dushary had surgery on Nov. 5th which was successful.
The Tri-V Wives will have their November meeting on the 14th at the home of Judy Lardin and the Christmas party is scheduled for December 15th at Rocky’s restaurant in Northville. The November hosts for pinochle with the Cashman’s and Schaefer’s. Top scorer at Cashman’s was Terry Connolly with 26 points and at the Schaefer’s was Jane Trachsel with 31 points. Pinochle standings after two months are Jack Schaefer in first with 51 points, Jane Trachsel, second, with 50 points and Brian Trachsel in third with 48 points.
The Children’s Christmas party is set for Dec. 16 at the Grand Parlor in Garden City, Garden City Historical Museum.
Now we have the Christmas season approaching sooner than we might want it to. Start now to think of our past. Think of our childhood when we anxiously awaited Santa or maybe we were less fortunate and the gift was a Goodfellow delivering a few presents to you. Some of the memories may not be happy for you but they did happen. Don’t block them out but share with others especially your family and children. We in Tri-V are sooo blessed as adults. Many of our children, though grown, are not aware of the sacrifice that our parents made for us or the sacrifice we made for our children for them to have the better life. Take the time to share those memories both good and bad. That’s it for the month. Hope you enjoy the reading. In the meantime take care of one another until we see you in print next month, the Good Lord willing.
