    Tags: TO OUR VETERANS

I FEEL OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS CAN BE…

I FEEL OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS CAN BE HONORED ANY TIME OF THE YEAR.

A CHRISTMAS POEM FOR ALL OUR CURRENT MILITARY PERSONNEL AND VETERANS
    TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
    PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
    WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
    AND TO SEE JUST WHO
    IN THIS HOUSE DID LIVE.

    I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A SRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
    NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
    NOT EVEN A TREE.

    NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
    JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
    ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
    OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

    WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
    AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
    A SOBER THOUGHT
    CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

    FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
    IT WAS DARK AND DREARY.
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
    ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

    THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
    SILENT, ALONE,
    CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
    IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

    THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
    THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
    NOT HOW I PICTURED
    A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

    WAS THIS THE HERO
    OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
    CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
    THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
    I REALIZED THE FAMLIES
    THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
    WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

    SOON AROUND THE WORLD,
    THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
    AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
    A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

    THRY ALL ENJOYED FREEDON
    EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
    BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
    LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

    I COULDN’T WONDER
    HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
    ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

    THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
    I DROPPED MTO ME KNEES
    AND STARTED TO CRY.
    THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
    “SANTA DON’T CRY
    THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE.

    I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
    I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
    MY LIFE IS MY GOD
    MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.”

    THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
    AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
    I COULDN’T CONTROL IT’
    I CONTINUED TOM WEEP.

    I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
    SO SILENT AND STILL,
    AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
    FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

    I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE
    ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
    THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
    SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
    THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
    WHISPERED “CARRY ON SANTA
IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”

    ONE LOOL AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT,
    “MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BE A MARINE
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND HAVE A GREAT DAY.

    Paper article

Wow, it must be something in the water as I often forget to do this. However, since I was out here. HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! May the weather cooperate and give the kids and us a nice night to go out and trick or treat and socialize with neighbors, friends and family. We have been busy with school starting and being in full swing now. Octoberfest, a PTO driven event for the kids school was held and was a great success. Got a chance to experience a new restaurant for me (Matt) called Slurping Turtle. It is in Ann Arbor and it was great. Never thought I would eat at a place called Slurping Turtle, but… it is amazing how many times I say, if you would have told me at 10 that I would do ….. I love the process of growing up and having so many new experiences. I wish this for all of you as well.

    Matt

    Appreciation

Thank you to all that have inquired and given positive thoughts and prayers in regards to the death of my grandfather. It means a lot to be part of such a great group like this.

    THE LARDINS
The month of September begins with Judy and John spending a night at the Windsor Casino returning home on Labor Day to enjoy a barbecue with friends from TRI-V. September also included blood work, chemo treatments and dental appointments for John. John and Judy both golfed a few times during September. Judy took her neighbors to airport to attend a black tie wedding in Washington DC. It was quite comical trying to get 4 adults, car seat with one year old, luggage and Judy as driver into car. When they returned, John drove the son’s car to airport and Judy picked up neighbors and John (much easier). They will be ending the month with another trip to Windsor spending one or two nights.

    THE LARDINS

    THE LARDINS

As usual, Judy and John have been busy starting with celebrations of John’s 77th birthday, Texas Roadhouse with Mike, Bev and Alyssa, and friend Paul; then on actual birthday had ham sandwiches with Jacqui and Jack and John played golf with Brian; then day after birthday celebrated with a barbecue at Cashmans with Angelosantos, Schaefers, and friends Pete and Jan Thibault. The following day had dinner with 12 or 14 friends from our former St. Bernardine family. Mike and Bev played in a golf tournament supporting Autism on Sunday, August 11 so Judy had Alyssa who she had to take to birthday party and of course then shopping. On August 17 Judy and John went to Caesars in Windsor, spent a couple hours there but were each rewarded with collapsible Igloo cooler and water bottle. Of course the above does not include chemo every other week for John. John has also had an echocardiogram, dental work, seen podiatrist and is scheduled for carotid artery check up; pacemaker/defib checkup and cardiologist check up in August. John is also playing golf twice a week; Judy once a week. Judy had her physical and is scheduled for mammogram and bone density test the end of August. Judy also watched Alyssa during August as Bev was finishing teaching summer school, week off and then back to school preparations for new school year. Judy took Alyssa to soccer practice, basketball camp, piano lessons, etc. (Alyssa keeps extremely busy.) They are going to Caesars September 1 and 2 hoping to spend some time relaxing and enjoying the pool and spa. Judy also tries to visit neighbor in assisted living at least once a week; gets her mail and takes to her; pays her bills and picks up items she needs from home or store. Judy says she’ll finally get a break with school starting and hopes to get to the water aerobics 2-3 times per week at the Y. John says “we did all that”?

    Keep those prayers coming—they WORK!!
