    President’s Message

Summer is upon us. Only a few more days of school for the kids and teachers and a whole lot of time off after that. I apologize for not posting a message last month. We were in the midst of one of those extremely busy times of year with the kids in sports, me coaching those sports and Michelle training for her third Iron Man race there was hardly a free moment after school.

This month we celebrate the 80th anniversary of the club. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the anniversary party in a few weeks. I know the committee has been working very hard to get things ready for us. Until then, enjoy the sunshine, warm weather and some days off.

    April President’s Message

It’s been a long time since I missed a deadline for the paper. I would blame Dave, but he seems to have things up and running again. I guess my best excuse is old age having just turned 40.

March has come and gone, bowling has finally, mercifully, ended and golf season is ready to begin. Hopefully we will have more record setting numbers of members and friends out on the golf course for our Monday league. Dave and Jay have really made golf at Hickory more fun than it should be.

At our March meeting we held our election of officers and election of 3 new council members. There were no changes in officers for the upcoming term. The three new council members are Dale, Bob and Cal. The family event is happening this Saturday at Drakeshire Lanes. There will be lunch and bowling for the kids. The Easter Bunny may even make a special appearance and bowl a game or two with the kids.

We will be meeting again on Tuesday at Drakshire. Since I won’t be at the meeting I’d like to wish everyone a Happy Easter if I don’t see you before then.

    March President's Message

March is truly a month of transition. We begin to see glimpses of Spring in the form of longer, sunny days, rain and wind storms and even some flower buds poking out of the soil. It sometimes seems like this transition is very slow moving. It was warm enough last week to ditch the jacket, but so cold this week I had to get the winter coat out again. Winter will be gone soon enough, but it does have a hard time letting go.

Marbles and Pinochle seasons have wrapped up. I wasn’t able to attend the final two marbles matches so I guess I didn’t win. Maybe next year. We will have final pinochle and marble at the Cadieux Cafe on March 26th.

This week we will hold the election of officers and council members at our Tuesday meeting. Please attend the meeting so you can cast your vote. If you will not be at the meeting, be sure to request an absentee ballot. We will start the meeting at 6:00 since it may be a long one. Hope to see you there.

    February President’s Message

A lot has happened since my last President’s message. President elect Trump became President Trump and the whole nation rejoiced. He then signed a bunch of papers (probably nothing important) and nominated highly qualified people to run some of the most important departments in our federal government. Things are going swimmingly indeed.

On a related note, Tri-V will be electing officers at next week’s meeting. It’s gonna be huge. If you would like to volunteer to run for any officer position but will not be at the meeting, please let one of the current officers know so we can add your name to the ballot. If you do not want to be on the ballot, nominate someone else at the meeting.

See you soon, keep thinking Spring and it will happen soon enough.

    January President’s Message

Happy New Year to everyone. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the holidays and time with their families. It looks as if we will have to wait at least one more year to see the Lions win the Super Bowl.
This month we will have the council party at Carl’s Cabin on the 28th. Dueling pianos will provide some entertainment for the evening. We will also be continuing the marbles and pinochle seasons. Only two more chances to catch up in the standings if you are behind. Our bowling teams are now in the second half of the season. Neither team did very well in the first half, but both are off to better starts in the second half.
I know many TriV members are preparing to or have already headed south for the winter. Enjoy the warm weather. See you back here when the lakes thaw and the snow melts.

    December President’s Message

The holiday season is upon us already. I don’t know how it always manages to catch me off guard, but it does.

It was great to see such a large turnout at the November Social. It was even better that my team won fowling bragging rights for eternity and $4.85 each. It has also been nice getting together for marbles once a month. I’m pretty sure that I will not win any bragging rights for that, but it has been fun and I can tell by the path of destruction left at every house that the kids are having fun too.

The children’s Christmas party is next weekend. Unfortunately, we will be out of town for that one. Hopefully everyone has a wonderful time visiting with Santa. I still have great memories of the Christmas party from my youth and that was a long time ago.

Finally, I’d like to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year. Just as the holiday season tends to sneak up on us every year; it also tends to slip away too quickly. Enjoy the many blessings of the season.

    November President’s Message

If you have turned on a TV in the past month or so then chances are good you are just about tired of all the political ads. Well I have good news for you, they are all about to go away. This Tuesday is not just another Tri-V meeting day followed by bowling, it is the single most important day in America. Make sure to get to the polls and cast your vote (like so many dead Floridians). If you haven’t yet found property in Canada, you are really running out of time.

Last month we had the October stag event at Drakshire Lanes in Farmington. There was dinner, pool, beer, and poker. Surprisingly there was no bowling (which made it more enjoyable). This weekend the November edition of marbles will be going down. Followed by the November social next weekend. I believe there may be pinochle in there somewhere too. November is quite the busy month.

At the meeting next week I will hand out the first draft of the committee assignments. If there is a committee you know you cannot serve on please let me know; especially if you will not be at the meeting. Committee assignments will be posted to the website once they are finalized.

    October President’s Message

October is upon us. The baseball season is winding down and the playoffs will be starting next week. Hopefully we will have a few more Tiger games to watch after this weekend. I’m not quite ready to let go. I’m also not quite ready to tune in to the Lions.

This month we will begin both marbles and pinochle leagues and we will have our October stag event. Many of us are once again bowling on Tuesday nights at Drakeshire. October is a busy month of getting together so enjoy those times spent with friends and TriV family.

Finally, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who was there as we laid to rest my grandfather. It was nice to hear stories and share memories of a life well lived. He will be missed, but those memories will live on.

    September President’s Message

My alarm woke me up this morning. For most people that may not seem like a big deal, but having to actually wake up to an alarm at 6 AM after 12 weeks of being woken up by a 7 year old looking for breakfast is a harsh transition back to reality. Welcome to September and back to school.

The final Tri-V events of the summer were held in the last two weeks of August. The men went up north for the final golf weekend where, as usual, nothing much happened. The weather did not cooperate for us, but we were able to get three rounds of golf in. Some groups came in significantly more drenched than others. We all celebrated Jay’s hole in one and his golf league championship. He certainly had a great year of golf. The steak roast was held the following weekend at Rotary park in Livonia. I could not attend, but I assume steak was roasted.

We were all saddened to hear about the passing of both Art Trachsel and Blondie Forsythe. They will be missed by all who were privileged enough to know them.

We will begin our monthly club meetings in September. We will meet on Tuesday, September 13th at Drakeshire Lanes at 6:00. Please try to attend if possible. If you cannot attend, contact one of the officers to let them know you will not be there.

    August President’s Message

Why do the summer months always seem to fly by? This July was no exception. Fortunately with all the hot, dry weather we had, we were able to spend plenty of beautiful days at the cottage, friends houses, ball fields, and golf courses. Speaking of golf, the golf league is close to wrapping up. I don’t expect to factor in on any winning this season, but it has been fun. Thanks to Jay and Dave for continuing to change things up and keep it interesting.
This month we held our annual family picnic at Rotary park in Livonia. As always it was a great day for gathering and having fun as a club. The kids all enjoyed playing the games. Thanks to John Mackson and Dave for putting it all together and taking up the slack for Jack who couldn’t be there.
Enjoy the rest of the summer. It will be gone before you know it.
