October Social – Detroit Velodrome (Bike Racing and Bar)

    October 2018

Being part of a social club that gets together as much as we do and have so many found memories and experiences, the task of finding something new and different for us to experience is great. However, our wonderful city of Detroit has landed us just the opportunity. As our city continues to come back and bring in new and exciting events, the Lexus Velodrome is one of them. There are videos and postings on line at Facebook (link below)

    https://www.facebook.com/LexusVelodrome/

Competitive bike racing in Detroit Michigan? Absolutely! What goes with watching people race on a track with 15 to 50 degree embankments? PIZZA – Cottage Inn Pizza to be exact. The SPOKEEASY bar, (located on the infield of the track) has suites where we will sit in comfortable couches and chairs watching the races either as they go around the track (up to 50 miles an hour) or on a big screen TV located in our suite where Cottage Inn Pizza will be delivered right to us. (Not included in price) order off menu. There is also a great selection of adult beverages at the bar just a few steps from the suite. The races take place from 7:30 to 9:30 on October 13. The bar stays open till about 11:00 for those that would like to just hang out. There is free parking at Carson High school right behind the Velodrome at Mack Rd off I-75. Depending on count, cost will range from $5 to $15 dollars per person + own food and beverages. Hope to see you there.

    Description from the Velodrome

Bike riding just became a year-round thing INSIDE the Lexus Velodrome, the newest addition to Detroit’s sport scene.  Upon approach to the highly visible dome at Mack & I-75, you will first hear a rumble that becomes a roar the moment you step inside.  More than a dozen bike racers, on bikes with no brakes, fearlessly face the challenge of 50 degree banking and wildly fast speeds as they negotiate the 1/10th mile cycling oval in hotly contested weekend races.  Spectators enjoy an up close experience around the track’s elevated skywalk or seated comfortably in infield suites. Put us on your bucket list – to watch, to ride, to come inside the Lexus Velodrome.

    Tri V Picnic

    2018 Tri V Picnic
The Tri V picnic was held on July 29th at Rotary park in Livonia. The weather was good but the turnout was low. We had 21 adults and 13 children in attendance. The committee supplied cups, ice, water and Lemonade. Each family brought a dish to pass and lunch began at 1:30.
The children’s games started around 2:30 with all children 7 and under participating and finding hidden eggs containing 20 cents each. Each child found 5 eggs then held others until everyone had 5 eggs. They then played a hopping race while holding a balloon between their legs. This game was won by Laney Trachsel with Piper Trachsel placing 2nd. The rest of the games that followed any child how wanted to play was allowed since there weren’t enough kids to play games by age groups. Games and winner below (winner received $1 2nd place 25 cents

Despite the low turnout the food was great, the friends were great, and the kids had a blast and that’s what it all about anyway so we had a wonderful day.

    Picnic Sign Up

Please fill out the sign up sheet so the committee can get a better idea of how many adults and kids will be attending. If you could also indicate what you might be bringing, it would be helpful. Thanks.

    Tri-V Picnic

I heard a rumor that the Tri-V picnic is scheduled for July 29th at Rotary Park in Livonia. I don’t know the details yet but I wanted to give a heads up in the paper until the committee can work everything out.

Please look for updates from committee members, Ryan & Lee to come soon. As soon as I hear word I’ll do my best to let everyone know.

    Thanks!
    -Dave
