MEMORIES FROM THE JULY 2010 TRI-V UMPH
The 78th Anniversary was held at Joy Manor, Westland. There were 22 members and 17 guests in attendance. The Tri-V Picnic will be held on July 26 at Rotary Park, Livonia from 12-4 p.m. Final Golf will be held the weekend of Aug. 21-23 at Ray’s Retreat in Gaylord with 32 golfing. The ladies getaway will be Aug 3-5 at Hankerd Inn, Pleasant Lake, MI. The Children’s Christmas party is scheduled for Sunday, December 6. Michelle Trachsel completed her first full marathon in Charlevoix, MI. The whole family was there to cheer her on at the finish line. John Lardin was diagnosed by the foot doctor as having Achilles tendeniditis. The doctor felt surgery was too risky and he was given a boot that covered from his knee to his entire foot to wear for five weeks. Fortunately this solved his problem and during that time John golfed twice a week with the boot. On June 16 a defibrillator/pacemaker was implanted because his heart ejections were down to 30. John wanted to wait until after golf season and the doctor said “We should have done it yesterday.” If all things check out positive on July 30 he will have no restrictions and can be back on the golf course. Ten years ago Judy was in Buhl, ID to celebrate her Uncle’s 80th birthday. On June 16 Judy and John will be going back to Buhl to celebrate his 90th birthday. Her Uncle Milton is the only surviving aunt/uncle on her mom’s side of the family. Other members of Judy’s family will be there for the celebration. On July 23 Judy and John will go to Corpus Christi, TX to see Larry and family. They have not seen them since December and the grandkids are missing them. Judy watched granddaughter Alyssa 3 days a week for four hours while mom teaches summer school. Judy decided that John’s 2011 Ford Flex had too miles on it and her 2002 Explorer had 65,000 miles they should get rid of the Explorer and get a new car. Judy ended up ordering a 2015 Flex the same color as John. She says this is the last new car they buy; plan on keeping them until the wheels fall off. This wraps up another trip down memory lane. Hard to believe that John Lardin has been retired from the Detroit Free Press to 25 years and Northwest Airlines for 20 years. He continues to use the flight benefits as part of his retirement. While we wait for summer to arrive in full force you can think back five years ago when we had a string of 90 degree temps. As miserable as we felt with the heat as adults we never complained as “kids” as one thinks back to our childhood. Can you imagine our children or grandchildren growing up without the conveniences they have today? I believe they have learned a few lessons these past few months with the Corona virus. What would they have done without internet for school, NETFLIX, U-tube, cable for entertainment during this pandemic? We made popsicles from Kool-Aid using the rubber maid holders. No matter how hot it was every day Mom still fixed a meal in the hot kitchen for dinner. When I was growing up you could ask a neighbor to watch the kids so you could go to store and you did the same for them. Now many do not know their neighbors. Perhaps with a little bit of effort on our part we can once again enjoy some of the things that our parents had the made it a good time to be raised. Until we see you in print next month, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another; wear a mask, social distance, STAY SAFE.
