    February President’s Message

Just as I was started to think we might have a decent, mild winter, I was reminded that there is no such thing here. The snow and cold found us in a major way. The kids have enjoyed having the week off of school. I think the week off would have been nicer if they could have actually gone outside to play. Either way, I’ll never complain about a snow day (or four).

In January we had our council party at Karl’s Cabin. I couldn’t make it because of a hockey tournament but it sounds like it was a lot of fun. We also had our monthly marbles gatherings. Michelle and I hosted in January. The kids all enjoyed the evening playing together and of course the adults had fun too. We have started our second half of bowling. Neither team was very successful in the first half. Hopefully we both get things going in the second half.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, February 12th at Perfect Game (formerly known as Drakeshire Lanes).

    LARDINS

Judy and John left Mich. on New Years Day and arriving in Ft. Myers on Friday about one in the afternoon to 80 degree sunny weather. The sunny weather lasted about 5 days and then the cool front came in and most of the month of Jan. has had temps in the high 60s to the high 70s with one or two 80 degree days. Lots of clouds and sprinkles on and off though last sun we did have four inches of rain that John had to “shovel.” We have been busy playing hand-and–foot along with euchre plus John continues with his chemo treatment every other week. He did manage to get to the driving range with Cal and Jan Cashnman to hit some golf balls and was supposed to play golf but got rained out. Judy is playing golf on Fri. with Jan Cashman and other girls from Jan’s complex. Ellie and Terry Connolly made a trip down from Ocala and had a nice dinner with Jan, Judy, Marian, Cal, John and Lee. Judy will be making a trip back to Mich. leaving on the 31st and returning beck to Ft. Myers on Feb. 4th. She wile be helping her 93 year old neighbor as well as having a sleep-over with granddaughter Alyssa. As you knew every month I ask you to continue to pray for the TRI-V Family in need of our prayers and would like to add Terry Connolly who is scheduled to have back surgery on Feb. 4th and Mark Elliott who is suffering major issues as well as friends. REMEMBER, THE PRAYERS DO WORK.

    FEBRUARY MEMORIES

MEMORIES FROM THE FEBRUARY 2009 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH

This month we were asked to spread our prayers out to several members of the Tri-V Family. First we ask to pray for Ellie and Terry Connolly and Dolores McMillan. Both families suffered the loss of their son and are in need of our support. Also to Brett Barnes who was recovering from surgery for the carotid endorectomy. Those travelling included Ken Plocharczyk and Ken Stress to FL in mid Feb. to visit Art Trachsel, the Dushary’s, attend the Florida TRI-V Anniversary Party and then Ken Stress brother on the way back home arriving in MI sometime in March. Speaking of the Dushary’s their son Adam came down to visit Kathy and Art for a little over two weeks the end of Jan. while Karen and Jeff Trachsel were headed to North Caroline the middle of Feb. to welcome home son, Ryan from Iraq. The Winter Event is scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Detroit Science Center, Detroit and includes hands on activities and scientific theatre shows and the Easter Egg Hunt was scheduled for March 29 at Maple Lanes Golf Club, Sterling Heights. The Council Party held on Jan. 17 at Cranberries Café, Goodrich, was attended by 44 TRI-V members and their guests despite the terrible snowstorm that lasted throughout the day. Do you remember the 2004 Anniversary Party in Goodrich? Looking further back to 1999 do you remember the nasty snow storm in 1999 that forced pinochle to be rescheduled? I do and remember being only one of five in my department made it to work that day. I can remember the trips to Cancun to help break up the winter weather and the golf trips with the TRI-V guys. How about the Council Party in 1999 at Casino Windsor? To refresh ones memories Dolores McMillan, after investing her first three quarters received 100 quarters in return. Tom Untener received 4000 plus quarters and Mark Elliott paid for is Florida golf trip with his winnings. Wonder if Tom still remembers the Royal Straight Flush on the card slot machine?

MEMORIES FROM THE FEBRUARY 2014ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH

Final pinochle was set for April 5 at the Cadieux Café, Detroit. We will have feather bowling followed by dinner. Tri-V picnic is set for July 13 at Rotary Park, Livonia. Judy and John did not listen to the boys advice very often but we did on Jan. 5 when we skipped pinochle and loaded the car up at 11:30 and left at 1:30 p.m. for FL. The weather in FL for January was not much better than Michigan’s weather in January. Most days the temp was in the mid to high 60s and the low at night got into the high 30s which is cold for FL. Judy talked to Alyssa and she asked “grandma, are you going to come and see me?” Judy thought for a few seconds and was ready to say yes until the weather came to mind. Because of the snow storm the Feb. 1 pinochle was cancelled and Brian and Ken Stress spent hours on the phone trying to determine a suitable date so all could play. Somehow they were able to come up with Valentine ’s Day so all could play. Pinochle scores through Feb. play had Romas in first place with 132 points, Robyn Mackson in second place with 126.5 points and Bob Kuhr in third place with 125 points.

This wraps up another trip down memory lane. I remember playing out in the snow with Johnnie, Mike, Larry and Brian and Mike being the one that got the best of his brothers. Even to this day Mike still gets the best of Larry and Brian. Think back to those cold winter nights that you cuddled with your “special person” watching television eating popcorn and maybe a fire burning. As a part of the TRI-V family we have all been blessed to have each other, to be there for each other in both god and not so good times. Think of those times. Don’t let those memories fade and be lost. Talk about them and share them with others. Until we see you in print next month, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

    TRI-V Council Party

    Tri V Council Party

The 2019 Tri V council party was held on Saturday January 19th at Karls Cabin. We had 14 couples sign up but only 10 couples attended. 3 couples had to bow out due to health reasons a one couple did not what to venture back out into the snowy weather after working all afternoon. Our dinner reservations were for 7:45 with the dueling piano’s beginning around 8:30. We were able to get to our tables before the reservation time and were seated and had our dinner orders in and served before the entertainment started. Most comments about the 2 piano players were that they were not as good as the married couple we saw 2 years ago but they we very good players and we all had a good time. The entertainment went until a little after 11:00.

We had to pay a $7 cover charge for 28 people with a $9 reservation fee that totaled $205. The budget was $175 so we assessed $3 per couple for $30 for a total of $205.
In attendance were the Geo. Hoffmans, Vanhollebekes, Scheafers, Macksons, M. Trachsels, B. Trachsels, Jeff Trachsels, R. Trachsels, Jay Trachsel, S. Trachsel.

Council party Committee: Jay Trachsel, Jeff Trachsel, Mike Trachsel, Cal Cashman, Bob Kuhr, Nick Angelosanto, Dale Horst

    January President’s Message

Happy new year! Hopefully everyone got through the holiday season whirlwind. It’s always a busy time, and while it’s so nice to get together with friends and family, it’s also nice to get back into a routine again. This is what I told my kids when they went back to school Wednesday while I enjoyed the rest of the week off. Sorry kids.
The October stag events was held in December. Twelve guys (10 members) went out to Commerce to try some fowling at On The Dunes. We were all awesome at it immediately and hardly ever missed the target. We bet one dollar per game and, as per Tri-V tradition, everyone broke even. A good time was had by all.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday at Drakshire. We will be in the party room this time not in the traditional meeting room.
Cheers to a happy and healthy 2019.
