    September President’s Message

My alarm woke me up this morning. For most people that may not seem like a big deal, but having to actually wake up to an alarm at 6 AM after 12 weeks of being woken up by a 7 year old looking for breakfast is a harsh transition back to reality. Welcome to September and back to school.

The final Tri-V events of the summer were held in the last two weeks of August. The men went up north for the final golf weekend where, as usual, nothing much happened. The weather did not cooperate for us, but we were able to get three rounds of golf in. Some groups came in significantly more drenched than others. We all celebrated Jay’s hole in one and his golf league championship. He certainly had a great year of golf. The steak roast was held the following weekend at Rotary park in Livonia. I could not attend, but I assume steak was roasted.

We were all saddened to hear about the passing of both Art Trachsel and Blondie Forsythe. They will be missed by all who were privileged enough to know them.

We will begin our monthly club meetings in September. We will meet on Tuesday, September 13th at Drakeshire Lanes at 6:00. Please try to attend if possible. If you cannot attend, contact one of the officers to let them know you will not be there.

    SEPT TRIFLES

Things continue going well for John Lardin. He was able to make the Steak Roast and only used his cane to get from the car to the shelter so guess that is a good sign. He continues with the chemo every other week and that will run until at least Dec. plus the therapy once a week and that has to be requested after every four treatments. Judy and John keep on the move and Sep. will be a busy month for them. Caesars in Windsor think John is a high roller and continue to send him free offers. In Aug. they saw Paul Anika and Chubby Checker and in Sep. will see Air Supply and in Oct. see Billy Ocean. Along with that John keeps getting $10 free play each week plus free gas card and free room for two nights each week. That will involve two nights stay two different weeks. Oct. will be busy with making a trip the beginning of Oct. to visit Kim, Larry and the grandchildren in Corpus Christi TX and that to be followed the end of Oct. with a trip to Fort Benning GA to attend grandson’s Kristian graduation from basic training in the Army. Other than that they seem to be leading a low key life style. Again thanks to everyone for their prayers and cards while I continue the road to recovery. They are working.

    SEPT MEMORIES

MEMORIES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 2006 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH

Our prayers went out to Susie Dunham and her family on the sudden loss of her Mom on Sept. 8th in New York. She had been ill with pulmonary fibrosis for about a year but her passing was unexpected as her heart just stopped. Last month we reported on the accident to Nick Angelosanto’s brother-in-law Rick. We are happy to tell you that he has moved out of rehab to Nick’s parents’ home in Livonia. He is slowly walking with a cane. Unfortunately he doesn’t expect to have full use of his left hand ever again. We ask you to continue to remember him in your prayers. Upon Art Trachsel return to FL he had a scare with chest pains and thought he was having a heart attack. Test showed he was suffering some internal bleeding and was given an endoscope and found the bleeding had stopped. He can no longer have coffee or chocolate and has to avoid spicy and fatty foods. Onallee Trachsel had been traveling to the Infectious Diseases Center for IV therapy every day for a couple of weeks and will continue the therapy down in FL. This was necessary when it was discovered that she had contracted ecoli from her hip replacement in July. Karlyn and Tim Gies traveled to New York for Tim’s work the first week of Sept. and on his return ended up in the emergency room with a kidney stone. He stayed home from work the next day and fortunately was able to pass the stone. Finally after a year of waiting John Lardin was having knee surgery the first part of Oct. on both knees. The latest visit and x-rays show that in two of three spots the knee is bone against bone in both knees plus here is a piece of bone floating in the right knee. The doctor told John “In a month you will be moving pretty good.” There was also a lot of good news in the Sept. issue. Mike and John Lardin made a trip to Kendallville IN for a couple days of golf before Final Golf. Then the first part of Sept. Judy was making a trip to IL for a family reunion. On her return Judy and John, Peg and George Hoffman, Jack Schaefer and JUDY’S SISTER-IN-LAWS husband will be making a trip to Kendallville IN for a couple days of golf. Sherry and Bob Kuhrs son, Rob, and wife Diana and granddaughter Ea returned the middle of Sept. from their four week visit to Albania. Karlyn and Tim Gies had their daughter, Lisa, husband John and little Jacob in from PA over the Labor Day Weekend to help celebrate the baptism of daughters Tracy and Nick daughter Natalya. Finally Robin and John Mackson were expecting their second addition to their growing family. There was an article with the final arrangements for the 70th Anniversary party to be held the weekend of June 22nd – 23rd, 2007 at McGuire’s Resort in Cadillac MI. The Steak Roast was held at Mettala Park, Wixom, with 22 Club Members and 21 guests in attendance.

MEMORIES FROM THE SEPTEMBER 2011 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH

What a difference five years have on the Newsletter. The 2011 Issue had two trifles, one from Jacque Schaefer and one from John Lardin. Not a whole lot to report. We will start with Jacqui and ask for your prayers on her recent knee replacement that she had been putting off for a couple of years. Happy to report that all went well and the rehab will continue for several weeks. The remaining trifle was mostly about Judy Lardin’s busy, busy schedule for the month. The weekend John was at Final Golf Judy drove to IL to visit her Mom and was able to convince her Mom to come back with her for a week. This was the first time her Mom had gone anywhere since her health issue in FL. Judy’s sister and girlfriend came to Thur. to drive her Mom back on Labor Day. Then the fun began the rest of the month with Judy watching Alyssa with school starting and the day care not being available yet plus trips of Canada, visit Helen Ryan and the afternoon with Jacqui Schaefer. Plans then started for a trip to TX for granddaughter Christine birthday then a bucket list trip to Akron OH to visit John’s cousin. This wraps up another trip down Memory Lane. One month loaded with info and the next month almost nothing. It would be a pleasure to write in future articles to bring back the memories about the good fortune of our fellow Club Member. The TRI-V UMPH is our lifeline for TRI-V, not face book. This is our way of letting all know what is going on in TRI-V as far as dates and location. Keep in mind that our Constitution and By-Laws require all Members to be notified of upcoming events. Notification of upcoming events in the Newsletter suffices notification. These articles that are submitted as well as articles for the trifles column are what make the Memory Column possible. Keep in mind what we do today becomes tomorrows memories. Share those memories with each other. Until next month when we see you in print, the Good Lord willing, take care of each other.

    Tri V calling list

I have redone the calling list with what I believe to be correct phone numbers. A few of you have different people due to the passing of members recently. I tried to balance the list with regard to older wives that may not know the newer council members.
