January proved to be a busy and trying…

January proved to be a busy and trying month for Judy and John.

John and Judy arrived in Ft. Myers December 29, 2020. John’s (little brother Nick, good friend) drove our car to Florida along with his friend Michelle. They left Christmas day and arrived in Ft. Myers on Sunday around noon.
They had car unloaded so all Judy had to do was put things away in condo. They picked Judy and John up at the airport around 1 p.m.

Nick and Michelle stayed with us for New Year’s even though we were in bed before midnight. They were going to fly out on Saturday however their flight got delayed/cancelled—they spent 11 hours at the airport only to call and say do you want guests for a couple more days—flying standby they could not get out until Tuesday am at 6:05. On Sunday, January 3 John was having lots of pain in his right groin and sometimes could barely walk. On Monday, John wanted to go to the Emergency Room. They did a cat scan, sonogram; EKG, blood work, etc. We arrived at ER at approximately 9:15 a.m.—they saw John about 1:30 p.m. and did all those tests. They think it is gallstones however gallbladder is not infected; appendix looks good; really don’t want to admit to hospital with COVID—if pain gets worse come back to ER. Once we arrived back to condo from ER, Judy checked flight for Nick and Michelle—the 6:05 a.m flight was cancelled and they did not roll over the buddies to the next flight—John called Delta to get mistake corrected—waiting on hold almost 3.5 hours. Finally got that done.

Judy made appointment with oncologist and surgeon for John. Judy and John took Nick and Michelle to airport for 7:30 am flight—Michelle got on 7:30 am flight and Nick on the following flight—finally both back in Michigan around one p.m. On January John saw oncologist for follow up appointment—he told John no chemo until after you see surgeon—blood count low but let’s draw blood again to make sure—oncologist was going to get clearance from Humana for shots to raise blood count—oncologist called to say blood count was OK—shots not needed.

John had some pain again on Sunday but didn’t want to go to ER since he had appointment with surgeon on Monday. Saw surgeon, does not believe it’s gallstones—had another radiologist read reports and they found nothing. The physician assistant said let me try one more thing—had John stand up, found hernia (which she could not believe)—surgery needed. Surgery scheduled for January 15, 2021. Need to see cardiologist for clearance—John saw cardiologist in Michigan in December and he was able to provide clearance. Mike called that evening to say that he, Bev and Alyssa were going to fly in on Wednesday and leave the following Tuesday since he didn’t think I should be alone—we were both very excited.

Hospital called to go over medications; surgeries, etc. Hospital called later to say need COVID test prior to surgery. Mike called to say Bev not feeling well—having issues with BBPV (vertigo) and she wants he and Alyssa to still come to FLA—I told him he should stay home with Bev. She was in the hospital in December the week before Christmas when she was diagnosed (thought she was having stroke). Got call from Kim (daughter-in-law) in Texas that Larry (our son) and Christine (granddaughter) both tested positive for COVID. Christine was 16 in October.

Hospital called this morning, January 13 to say that they needed more blood work prior to surgery. John had COVID test at 10:30 am in Cape Coral; then blood work scheduled for 11:45 am in Ft. Myers—COVID test was very timely—waited almost an hour for blood work. On our return took short drive to hospital to find entrance “A”. Judy can go with John into registration but then has to exit hospital and wait for doctor to call after surgery is done. At this time they do not know if it will be outpatient or John will be in overnight.

The saga continues–today got call from surgeon’s office saying surgery is cancelled. Can you come to Cape Coral in an hour to see the surgeon–blood count too low.
First time meeting surgeon and we both immediately liked him. He was not aware that John gets chemo and when he heard Avastan–he shook his head. Judy called oncologist while in office and the surgeon and oncologist spoke to one another–the oncologist will work on getting John’s blood level higher and told the surgeon that yes, John, could miss chemo for another 3-4 weeks or longer. At this time the surgery is rescheduled for Thursday, February 4–time TBD like always.

I told John that GOD works in mysterious ways–must be why Mike, Bev and Alyssa cancelled trip due to the vertigo. I truly believe that GOD is working things out for John.

John had call from oncologist—need to take more blood; gave PROCRIT injection in stomach to raise iron levels.

On January 18 oncologist called and wants John to have blood transfusion to raise hemoglobin levels prior to surgery; had 2 pints of blood on January 19.

John saw oncologist on January 26 for blood check and didn’t like what he heard and sent him for CHEST X-ray. John got the MODERNA vaccine and is scheduled to receive second dose Feb. 25. CHEST x-ray came back negative. Oncologist called on January 28 and asked John to come in for iron infusion prior to surgery.

Today is January 31 and Judy is expecting the hospital to call for more blood work and another COVID test prior to surgery Thursday, Feb. 4.

MEMORIES FROM THE FEBRUARY 2011 TRI V UMPH…

MEMORIES FROM THE FEBRUARY 2011 TRI-V UMPH
We were asked to remember in our prayers Vickie Battel, mother of Victoria Angelosanto, and Doris Delanoy, wife of Jim, on their passing. These were two wonderful women and for those of us that were fortunate to have known them have been blessed. The Tri-V Anniversary party has been switched from Hawthorne Valley to Northville Downs, Northville on March 12. The change was necessary since Hawthorne Valley went out of business. The Florida Anniversary Party was scheduled for March 18-20 in Ft. Myers, FL which included a Mystery Train dinner. Pinochle standings through Feb. play had Jane Trachsel in first place with 120.5 points, Robyn Mackson, Mike Trachsel and Jeff Trachsel tied for second place with 116 points.

MEMORIES FROM THE FEBRUARY 2016 TRI V UMPH…

MEMORIES FROM THE FEBRUARY 2016 TRI-V UMPH
No prayers were requested for member in February of 2016.
TRI-V Nomination and Election of Officers will be held at the March 2016 meeting.
MARBLE standings in February had Kim Burke in first place with 45 points; Dave Burke in second place with 40 points, and Matt Hoffman, Jay Trachsel and Steve Trachsel in third place with 39 points.
Pinochle standings the end of January 2016 had Jane Trachsel in first place with 101 points; Romas Bliudzius in second place with 89.5 points and Mike Trachsel in third place with 85.5 points.
May Open House will be held on May 14, 2016 at Beacon Hill, White Lake Township.
The month of January was not the best for snow birds this year in Florida. Florida had 19 inches of rain in January of 2016 and temp was in low 60s with lots of cloud. John’s hip caused him a lot of problems with the damp/cold weather and Judy chipped a filling in a tooth, she did make it home to Michigan to have a temporary crown and will get permanent crown when they return home. John played a round of golf on Friday the 5th and Friday evening and Saturday was in a lot of pain.
Bob and Sherry Kuhr celebrated Christmas and New Years with Rob and his family in Germany. They had a great time. Once home Sherry had shingles and the doctors were worried that they might go into her eyes; fortunately they did not. On Feb. 15 Sherry will be having a complete knee replacement; poor Bob had to take care of her once they returned from Germany and now he will be a caregiver again after knee surgery. Sherry hopes to be golfing in the spring.
This wraps up another trip down memory lane. I mentioned the winter Florida Golf Trip and as I was typing I thought of the first trip made with Nick and Cal to Arizona as well as the remaining trips to Georgia, Mississippi and many locations throughout Florida as well as the two outings that we shared with our “Brides”. They were fun. I mentioned about Jack Schaefer celebrating his birthday in 2006 with him mom. Am glad to say that here it is 2016 and she is 102 and still here celebrating Jack’s birthday. We had already had a lot of cold and snow already this year (2016) and us “older folds” can remember when we had no such thing as “snow days” and we lived with it. We just sucked it up. These memories along with all that we grew up with are our memories to share with each other as well as our children and grandchildren. Take the time to share with them now. Do not let them get lost. Until we see you again next month in print, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

I talked to Dale on Sunday He was…

I talked to Dale on Sunday. He was home and feeling better but he still gets short of breathe at times. The surgery went very well and he only had 1 stent put in and the temporary valve was not put in because during the procedure his valve began working better. He is still scheduled to have valve replacement surgery in late February.

January 2021 paper dead line for Memories

MEMORIES FROM THE JANUARY 2011 TRI-V UMPH
There were no members needing our prayers in January of 2016.
The Nomination and Election of Officers will take place at the Club meeting in March.
MARBLES standings were as follows in January of 2016—Dave Burke in first place with 35 points; Matt Hoffman, John Lardin, Jack Schaefer were all in second place with 34 points and Kim Burke had 33 points.
Pinochle standings in December 2015 had Jane Trachsel in first place with 73 points; Romas Bliudzius in second with 67.5 points and Mike Trachsel in third place with 63.5 points.
The TRI-V Council party was held on January 9 with 12 people in attendance for the Henry Ford museum tour and then on to LA Bistro for dinner in Dearborn.
John Lardin had issues with his right hip and has a severe case of osteoarthritis in his right hip, back and left hip. The pain on his right was became unbearable and filled out paperwork to have cortisone shot on the 31 of December—fortunately for him they called and were able to do on Dec. 30 due to cancellations. The surgery was successful for John. Judy and John plan to leave for Ft. Myers FL on Jan. 7 and returning to Michigan April 12. Judy and John made another trip to Corpus Christi TX to celebrate grandson’s birthday and Christmas leaving on Dec. 10 and returning Dec. 14.
This ends another trip down memory lane. Can you believe that we had 49 people playing pinochle in 2006 and 44 playing in 2011? For December 2015 the Lardins hosted 10 people. What a drastic change, so sad. The snow birds are settled in FL for three months, while others are looking to get away for a couple of weeks. All of this has an effect on the attendance at Club events and all we ask is everyone make every possible effort to attend as many events as possible. This wraps up another trip down Memory Lane. Until we see you in print next month, The Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

Presidents Message We have all finally said farewell…

    Presidents Message

We have all finally said farewell and good riddance to 2020. Let’s pray 2021 is a better year for everyone. There is hope that the vaccine will allow us to get back to a more normal lifestyle.
I hope everyone enjoyed the Christmas and New Year holidays. Liz and I decided against having the whole family to our house and visited with our kids one family at a time. It was certainly different not being with all the kids and grandkids at the same time. I know we all missed spending the holidays together as a group.
As a reminder as per the vote taken at the September meeting all club officers are staying on an extra year so we do not need a meeting to vote for officers. There are no scheduled events until golf starts in April. Dave and I will remain on this committee. Nick and Matt V have started the May open house planning. I will plan trying to get a pavilion reserved for the July picnic. I will be contacting people involved in summer activity events last year to see if they volunteer for the same events again this year. Since many events have been canceled I will try to assign people to help out on the events that will take place. Events for next fall may be possible but we will hold off until we have a clearer picture of the virus situation.
    Stay safe , Stay healthy
JUST a REMINDER to everyone to please use the club paper, text messaging and calling list as much as possible to keep the club informed of anything happening within the Tri V family.

    President Jay Trachsel
