I FEEL OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS CAN BE…

I FEEL OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS CAN BE HONORED ANY TIME OF THE YEAR.

A CHRISTMAS POEM FOR ALL OUR CURRENT MILITARY PERSONNEL AND VETERANS
    TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
    PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
    WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
    AND TO SEE JUST WHO
    IN THIS HOUSE DID LIVE.

    I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A SRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
    NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
    NOT EVEN A TREE.

    NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
    JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
    ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
    OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

    WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
    AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
    A SOBER THOUGHT
    CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

    FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
    IT WAS DARK AND DREARY.
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
    ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

    THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
    SILENT, ALONE,
    CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
    IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

    THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
    THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
    NOT HOW I PICTURED
    A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

    WAS THIS THE HERO
    OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
    CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
    THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
    I REALIZED THE FAMLIES
    THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
    WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

    SOON AROUND THE WORLD,
    THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
    AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
    A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

    THY ALL ENJOYED FREEDOM
    EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
    BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
    LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

    I COULDN’T WONDER
    HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
    ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

    THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
    I DROPPED TO MY KNEES
    AND STARTED TO CRY.
    THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
    “SANTA DON’T CRY
    THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE.

    I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
    I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
    MY LIFE IS MY GOD
    MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.”

    THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
    AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
    I COULDN’T CONTROL IT’
    I CONTINUED TOM WEEP.

    I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
    SO SILENT AND STILL,
    AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
    FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

    I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE
    ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
    THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
    SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
    THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
    WHISPERED “CARRY ON SANTA
IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”

    ONE LOOK AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT,
    “MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BE A MARINE
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND HAVE A GREAT DAY.

MEMORIES FROM THE DECEMBER 2015 ISSUE OF TRI…

MEMORIES FROM THE DECEMBER 2015 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
There were no members requesting our prayers in December. Santa arrived at the Livonia YMCA for the Children’s Christmas Party. All the children and members enjoyed the many activities—swimming, bouncing in the bounce house, crafting and playing with yoga balls. All got to visit with Santa and open a present.
The Tri-V Wives Christmas luncheon is planned for December 12 at Alfoccino Restaurant in Farmington Hills.
MARBLES will be held the first Saturday in January. MARBLES had Dave Burke in first place with 23 points; John Lardin second place with 19 points and a 4-way tie for third place—Amber Trachsel, Brian Trachsel, Jane Trachsel and Jay Trachsel.
Pinochle standings as of November had Jane Trachsel in first place with 53 points; Mike Trachsel in second place with 51 points and Romas Bliudzius in third place with 49 points. For the months of October and November there was only one house for pinochle each evening.
The November social was a trip to Motown Museum followed by dinner at the Hop Cat restaurant in Detroit. Twenty one people attended the Motown Museum tour and twenty two enjoyed dinner.
The Council Party will be held on Saturday, January 9 and the Henry Ford Museum. After the tour dinner will be at L. A. Bistro Restaurant in Dearborn.
There were less than 10 Christmas greetings in the Tri-V Umph in December of 2015.
Please share your special memories of how you spent Christmas in years past. I remember getting my first bike and electric train. Take the time to watch the little ones, whether they are your children, grandchildren or great grandchildren open those gifts and the look of excitement on their faces and think back when it was their mom or dad you watched. Christmas time is such a special time for all of us.
To most of the children it is a time to see if Santa brought that special present that they tried so hard to be good to receive. As we age the special time advances to sharing the birth of Jesus on Christmas Day and our family and friends. We are so blessed to be a part of this wonderful family. Until we meet next month in print, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

MEMORIES FROM THE DECEMBER 2010 ISSUE OF TRI…

MEMORIES FROM THE DECEMBER 2010 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
We were asked to remember in our prayers Karen Thrift and Jeff Trachsel. Karen had knee surgery on Nov. 12 and was diagnosed with blue bones. It was determined it was caused by some medication she was on. Research showed that she was only the second case ever recorded. The end of November Jeff was rushed to the hospital with severe chest pains. He was diagnosed with 95% blockage on the right coronary artery and had three stints inserted. We are glad to report that both have recovered. Also to John Lardin who had eight inches of his colonoscopy removed on Nov. 12 and he being free of cancer now. Geri Ruetenik has been given a clean bill of health. A Tri-V Club By-Law proposed change would allow all members eligible to vote to request their ballot. It is the responsibility of the member to request the absentee ballot from the election committee. He may request the ballot electronically or by US Mail. Congratulations to Matt and Christine Hoffman and grandparents Peg and George Hoffman on the arrival of son, Timothy born on Nov. 23. Those travelling over the Holidays included daughter Lisa and her family to celebrate Thanksgiving and Christmas with Tim and Karlyn. Judy and John Lardin spent Thanksgiving with Judy’s parents over the Thanksgiving Weekend and on their return went to Texas to celebrate grandson Jacob’s fourth birthday; when they return they will celebrate grandson Dante’s sixth birthday and then get ready for the Trip to FL for the winter. Sherry and Bob Kuhr spent three weeks in Albania visiting son Rob and family. The Children’s Christmas Party was set for Dec. 12 at F. B. Wright Co., Dearborn. The TRI-V Wives Christmas Party was set for Dec. 15 at Sophia’s Restaurant, Farmington Hills and the Winter Event was set for Feb. 27 for an evening of feather bowling at the Cadieux Café, Detroit. Pinochle scores through December play had Jeff Trachsel in first place with 76.5 points, Jane Trachsel in second place with 75.5 points and Vickie Angelosanto and Robyn Mackson tied for third place with 74 points.

Presidents Message I hope everyone is doing well…

    Presidents Message
I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.
As I write this the election season is coming to an end. No matter whom you are voting for I’m sure we can all agree that it will be nice to not have the political ads bombarding everything we watch and read.
As we start this 2020 holiday season we all want to enjoy the holidays with family, but the surging corona counts in all states has Liz and I have been trying to determine the best and safest way to proceed. I’m sure this discussion is taking place in many families.
Have a great Thanksgiving and please stay safe. We’ll all pray that some sense of normalcy returns in the near future.

JUST a REMINDER to everyone to please use the club paper, text messaging and calling list as much as possible to keep the club informed of anything happening within the Tri V family.

    President Jay Trachsel
