I FEEL OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS CAN BE…

I FEEL OUR MILITARY AND VETERANS CAN BE HONORED ANY TIME OF THE YEAR.

A CHRISTMAS POEM FOR ALL OUR CURRENT MILITARY PERSONNEL AND VETERANS
    TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS
    HE LIVED ALL ALONE,
IN A ONE BEDROOM HOUSE MADE OF
    PLASTER AND STONE.

I HAD COME DOWN THE CHIMNEY
    WITH PRESENTS TO GIVE,
    AND TO SEE JUST WHO
    IN THIS HOUSE DID LIVE.

    I LOOKED ALL ABOUT,
A SRANGE SIGHT I DID SEE,
    NO TINSEL, NO PRESENTS,
    NOT EVEN A TREE.

    NO STOCKING BY MANTLE,
    JUST BOOTS FILLED WITH SAND,
    ON THE WALL HUNG PICTURES
    OF FAR DISTANT LANDS.

    WITH MEDALS AND BADGES,
    AWARDS OF ALL KINDS,
    A SOBER THOUGHT
    CAME THROUGH MY MIND.

    FOR THIS HOUSE WAS DIFFERENT,
    IT WAS DARK AND DREARY.
I FOUND THE HOME OF A SOLDIER,
    ONCE I COULD SEE CLEARLY.

    THE SOLDIER LAY SLEEPING,
    SILENT, ALONE,
    CURLED UP ON THE FLOOR
    IN THIS ONE BEDROOM HOME.

    THE FACE WAS SO GENTLE,
    THE ROOM IN SUCH DISORDER,
    NOT HOW I PICTURED
    A UNITED STATES SOLDIER.

    WAS THIS THE HERO
    OF WHOM I’D JUST READ?
    CURLED UP ON A PONCHO,
    THE FLOOR FOR A BED?
    I REALIZED THE FAMLIES
    THAT I SAW THIS NIGHT,
OWED THEIR LIVES TO THESE SOLDIERS
    WHO WERE WILLING TO FIGHT.

    SOON AROUND THE WORLD,
    THE CHILDREN WOULD PLAY,
    AND GROWNUPS WOULD CELEBRATE
    A BRIGHT CHRISTMAS DAY.

    THRY ALL ENJOYED FREEDON
    EACH MONTH OF THE YEAR,
    BECAUSE OF THE SOLDIERS,
    LIKE THE ONE LYING HERE.

    I COULDN’T WONDER
    HOW MANY LAY ALONE,
    ON A COLD CHRISTMAS EVE
IN A LAND FAR FROM HOME.

    THE VERY THOUGHT
BROUGHT A TEAR TO MY EYE,
    I DROPPED MTO ME KNEES
    AND STARTED TO CRY.
    THE SOLDIER AWAKENED
AND I HEARD A ROUGH VOICE,
    “SANTA DON’T CRY
    THIS LIFE IS MY CHOICE.

    I FIGHT FOR FREEDOM,
    I DON’T ASK FOR MORE,
    MY LIFE IS MY GOD
    MY COUNTRY, MY CORPS.”

    THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER
    AND DRIFTED TO SLEEP,
    I COULDN’T CONTROL IT’
    I CONTINUED TOM WEEP.

    I KEPT WATCH FOR HOURS,
    SO SILENT AND STILL,
    AND WE BOTH SHIVERED
    FROM THE COLD NIGHT’S CHILL.

    I DIDN’T WANT TO LEAVE
    ON THAT COLD, DARK, NIGHT,
    THIS GUARDIAN OF HONOR
    SO WILLING TO FIGHT.
    THEN THE SOLDIER ROLLED OVER,
WITH A VOICE SOFT AND PURE,
    WHISPERED “CARRY ON SANTA
IT’S CHRISTMAS DAY, ALL IS SECURE.”

    ONE LOOL AT MY WATCH,
AND I KNEW HE WAS RIGHT,
    “MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND,
AND TO ALL A GOOD NIGHT.”

THIS POEM WAS WRITTEN BE A MARINE
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND HAVE A GREAT DAY.

Christmas Greeting from Judy and John Lardin
Merry Christmas TRI-V. As we prepare to celebrate the birthday of the Christ Child remember all that has happened and be thankful for all the support we have received from the TRI-V Family as well as our own family and friends. It has been a blessing to be a member of TRI-V. Merry Christmas to all.

    THE LARDINS
November proved to be a busy month for Judy and John as it is for most people. John continues to get chemo every other week then add Thanksgiving Week with son Larry, Kim and grandchildren coming in for the week. All that Christine and Jacob want is to see and play in snow. Looks like they are a week late for that. Larry has many plans he wants to do while here and looks like it will be a busy week each day with all of us being together for Thanksgiving Dinner for the first time in five years. John is excited for this gathering. After they leave we will be getting ready for Christmas and preparing for the annual three month trip to Ft. Myers FL for the winter leaving the first week of January.

MEMORIES FROM THE DECEMBER 2009 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
Please remember in your prayers Bob Wendt. His heath continues to deteriorate. He is unable to do anything on his own and spends most of his time sleeping. His pain medicine has been increased regularly and is in hospice care. Those traveling were Art Trachsel to North Fort Myers for Thanksgiving and Judy and John Lardin to Corpus Christi TX the first part of Dec. This trip for Art and Judy and John has become regularity for this time of the year. Peg and George Hoffman made it home for the holidays. While here Peg will have minor foot surgery and the return to FL has not been determined. There were articles on pinochle hosted by the Connollys and Wutkas. Through the Dec. play in first place was Nick Angelosanto with 75 points, Romas Bliudzius in second place with 74.5 points and Vickie Angelosanto in third place with 69 points. The TRI-V Wives Christmas dinner was set for Dec. 16 at Plymouth Crossings, Plymouth; the TRI-V Council party was set for Jan. 23 at Novi Bowl, Novi, and the Florida TRI-V Anniversary party for March 9-11 at Lazy Daze in FL.
MEMORIES FROM THE DECEMBER 2014 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
There is not too much to report from the December 2014 issue of Tri-V. The women were still having Wives’ club meetings and book club discussions monthly. The November social was on Nov. 15 with 11 TRI-V members/wives gathered at Aubree’s pizzeria and grill and then the Schoolcraft College Theatre seeing Neil Simon’s “The Star Spangled Girl”. Children’s Christmas party was set for Sunday, Dec. 14 at Eddie Edgar arena, Livonia. The Tri-V pinochle standings through Dec. had Onallee Trachsel in first place with 74.5 points, Victoria Angelosanto in second with 67 points, and Jan Cashman in third with 66.5 points. The Council Party is scheduled for Saturday, January 24 in downtown Rochester and will be treated to Rochester Fire and Ice Festival. Judy and John Lardin enjoyed the Thanksgiving holiday with son Larry and family making it here for the week. The grandkids, Christine 9 and Jacob 7 had never seen snow and were expecting some. The snow came down on Friday after they had left to return to Corpus Christi, TX. Judy and John will be going to Corpus Christi on Dec. 15 to celebrate grandson Jacob’s birthday. There were 19 Christmas greetings in Tri-V Umph 2014. This wraps up another trip down memory lane. This being the last one of the year, take the time to think back all that has happened with you, your family and the TRI-V family in 2019. Perhaps there is someone who has lost a loved one this year, remember them, pray for them. Was there a special Holiday Season? Take the time to share those memories we grew up with. As we see each other start with “Remember when” and go from there. It might be a previous Christmas or just something that happened last Feb. or March. Just take the time to share the memories. Do not let the good or unfortunate thing just fade away. It is all part of what has made us what we are both as individuals and family. Until we see you next month, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

November Marbles at Jay and Liz’s home

We hosted 5 couples (Matt Hoffmans, Eric Hoffman with super sub Christa, Dave Burks, Bill Trachsel with Scotty plus Liz and I) with 4 children at our house for marble Saturday Nov 2nd. We had pizza, salad, fruit and desert. And the marbles went ok with a point range of 10 down to 2. We want to thank Brian and Jane for offering to have 1 table at their house consisting of the Steve’s, Mike’s and Brian and Jane which reduced our house total from 25 down to 14 which was much more manageable for our house size.

    Presidents Message

My cottage is closed for the season and Halloween has past so it must be time for snow. The November social was cancelled this week due to poor response. I know this time of year can get hectic but if we want to maintain a calendar of events please give feedback on any purposed ideas to help the committee plan. In the future if you attend a function or have an idea for event that you think Tri V members would enjoy please pass these ideas along to the appropriate committee for their consideration. The new marble rules seem to be working good although I did hear some griping about not getting any out cards for long stretches of time this past month. Up next is the Tri V Children’s party. Plans are underway and information will be given out at the November meeting. Watch for any updates via email or text.
    Everyone have a great Thanksgiving
