MEMORIES FROM THE OCTOBER 2009 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
October 2009 was much better health wise than 2004 with only known TRI-V member in need of our prayers was Terry Connolly who was recovering from hip replacement on Sept. 8. Reports of travel included Diane and Ken Plocharczyk to Las Vegas doing a lot of sightseeing on the trip and Sherry and Bob Kuhr in Albania for a month visiting son, Rob and family. Those having visitors included Judy and John Lardin with son Larry and family in from TX for a week. The trip included the whole family (21 total) making a trip to Cedar Point and Kirk Trachsel, son of Art, making a quick trip to Sarasota FL for a short visit. The October Stag event is an evening of whirly ball scheduled for Oct. 17 at the Novi Sports Arena, Novi, and the Children’s Christmas party scheduled for Dec. 6 at Maples Lanes Golf Club in Sterling Heights, MI. There were articles on pinochle hosted by the Clingermans and the Lardins. Pinochle scores for the first month of play had Jane Trachsel in first place with 26 points, AnnMarie Angelosanto in second with 25 points and Donna Clingerman in third with 24.5 points. Five years ago we had three houses with six couples at each house for Tri-V pinochle each month. This year we have only two tables with five couples at each house. What is the future of TRI-V pinochle?
MEMORIES FROM THE OCTOBER 2014 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
We were fortunate that the October issue had no one in need of prayers. The October stag was scheduled for the 24 at the Cadieux Café, Detroit; and the November social was to attend the play “The Star Spangled Girl” on Sept. 15 at Schoolcraft College. The ladies Christmas luncheon is scheduled for Dec. 6 at Champs America in Livonia. The Children’s Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 14 at Eddie Edgar Arena, Livonia. The first night of pinochle had Onallee in first place with 27 points, Ken Stress in second with 26 points and John Lardin tied with Brian Trachsel in third place with 21.5 points. Those travelling included Judy and John Lardin to Akron, OH to visit John’s cousin, Corpus Christi, TX to visit son Larry and family, and celebrate granddaughter’s birthday. Cal and Jan Cashman celebrated their 25 wedding anniversary by taking a 7 day cruise around the Hawaiian Islands. The trip included a 3 day visit with Jan’s son in San Diego and daughter Kathy in Arizona. After 64 years Blondie Forsyth found it necessary to sell her home in Northville and move to assisted living in Brighton. Kirk Trachsel flew in from Las Vegas to celebrate Art Trachsel’s 94th birthday.
This wraps up another trip down memory lane. Read in the paper where the last Bob-Lo boat was being towed to New York to be refurbished and used as some attraction there. Do you remember making that bat ride to Bob-Lo Island and the amusement park? Share with each other your memories of those trips. Back when we had Bob-Lo we also had a Winkleman’s and Sanders store in the neighborhood. How about attending a hockey game at Olympia Stadium to watch the Red Wings and shortly a new stadium and Joe Louis will be a memory. Kresges and Woodworth’s were called “dime” stores and Kresges is now K-Mart and they continue to close them. Another memory to be gone soon. Then we have the Good Humor man in his white uniform and truck going through the neighborhood selling what our parents thought was expensive ice cream treats (mmmm those toasted almonds ice cream bars). Lastly we went on a tour of the Wonder Bread Bakery on Grand River and received a small loaf of bread. Now it’s the Motor City Casino. How sad to think back at all that are now just memories. Take the time to share with each other. Until we see you next month in print, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

    Presidents Message

Tri V was saddened by the news of the passing of Ken Plocharczyk’s brother in early September. Our prayers are with Ken and his family.
The start of the marbles season begins Saturday October 5th at John Lardin and Dave Burkes homes. There are a few rule changes which should help speed up the games and lower frustration. Good luck to everyone this season.
The stag party committee is looking into some interesting event ideas and we hope to hear about the October social event at the meeting on October 8th.
Coming up in December will be the children’s Christmas followed by the Council party the beginning of 2020.
Committee chairmen please get event information into the paper ASAP so people can make plans to attend.
    Jay Trachsel
