OCTOBER MEMORIES
MEMORIES FROM THE OCTOBER 2008 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
We received all that Cy Richeson has gone through from September 17 thru October 6. He fell and broke his femur by the hip and was admitted to Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, to repair the break and on September 24 he was transported back home to Presbyterian Village, Redford. He returned to Beaumont Hospital on September 28 and from there to hospice care on October 6. All were asked to remember Cy in your prayers. Jan and Cal Cashman spent the end of September in Wilmot OH to attend Jan’s 45th high school reunion and Cal was looking forward to his 50th class reunion in Troy on October 11. In between the two reunions they celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary at a great restaurant in Union Lake called “It’s a Matter of Taste”. Peg and George Hoffman will be leaving Oct. 10 for North Fort Myers and returning to Novi in the spring. Art and Kathy Dushary were leaving Oct. 17 for their new condo in Ocala FL and plan on returning the end of May. Peg and Bob Wendt reported that the first year of them spending the whole year in FL wasn’t bad and they have found Drs. that are able to take care of their ailments. John Lardin has completed successfully his 36 rehab visits from his heart attack and was given a clean bill of health and no need to return for six months. The middle of Oct. will find the Andersons, Connolly’s, Lardins, and Schaefer’s making a trip to Branson MO by train leaving from the Dearborn station. Upon the return from the Branson trip, Judy and John left for Corpus Christi TX to celebrate granddaughter’s fourth birthday. The October stag changed to an October Social with an evening of feather bowling and dinner at the Cadieux Café, Detroit on Oct. 18 and the November Social was set for Sunday, November 2 at the Three Cedars Farm, Northville. There will be apple cider, donuts, dinner, and play area for the children, country store for the ladies and a corn maze and rise. The Children’s Christmas party is set for Dec. 7 at the Colonial Acres clubhouse, South Lyon. Pinochle standings for the first month of play had Robyn Mackson in first place with 43 points, Vickie Angelosanto in second with 38.5 points and John Mackson in third place with 29.5 points.
MEMORIES FROM THE OCTOBER 2013 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH
The renovation that Judy and John started on the lower level has been completed and Judy was able to get the house back in order to host the first night of pinochle in October. After pinochle they left for Corpus Christi TX to celebrate granddaughter’s ninth birthday. Judy and John continue sharing their time attending the grandchildren’s soccer and football games and Judy continues to enjoy emergency watching of granddaughter Christine.
Diane and Ken Plocharczyk had a busy summer and can’t believe it’s almost October. They recently took a trip to Copper Harbor in the UP taking in the beautiful scenery and the Lake Superior shoreline.
Jan and Cal Cashman left their cottage in Farwell to enjoy the fall colors of Michigan and celebrate their 24th wedding anniversary. They travelled a total of 902 miles and enjoyed each one.
There was a proposed bylaw change published and to be voted upon at the November meeting.
September 23 ad 24, thirteen members of Tri-V Wives travelled to Grand Rapids to visit the Art Prize Exhibit, a once a year worldwide exhibit of art. They also spent time at the Meijer Gardens.
Judy and John hosted pinochle and the big winner was Robyn Mackson with 29.5 points, followed by Jane Trachsel with 23.5 points and Geri Ruetenik with 22.5 points.
The November social is scheduled for Sept. 9 at the Ruby Tuesday restaurant in Plymouth followed by a trip to Compuware Arena to watch the Whalers Hockey team to play the Windsor Spitfires.
The children’s Christmas party is planned for December 8 at Eddie Edgar Ice Arena, Livonia. The Tri-V Wives Christmas luncheon is to be held December 11 at Ginapolis Barbecue Smoke House, Farmington Hills.
Pinochle standings for the first month of play is Robyn Mackson in first place with 29.5 points, Lynn Barnes in second with 28.5 points and Cal Cashman in third with 27 points.
This wraps up another trip down memory lane. Halloween will be almost here by the time you read this newsletter, do you remember how you used to dress for this fun day? Did you get to wear a costumed to school? Was mom or dad the one to take you out trick or treating? What about your own children or grandchildren? Do you think they have as much fun as we did this time of year? Share the memories of what you did or what our children did and as they probably do not remember. It is surprising when family members get together and start talking memories how often one or more will say “I don’t remember that.” Or “Did I really do that?” Until next month when we meet in print, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.

Marble at Jay and Liz’s On Saturday October…
Marble at Jay and Liz’s
On Saturday October 6th we hosted George and Peg, Brian and Jane, Bill and Michelle, Mike and Kristin, Dave and Kim and about a 1000 kids. The marbles were fun but Mike dominated and took 1st place George was 2nd. The rest of us tried. The kids had a ball. A tip for people hosting the kids house rated G movies or TV shows for getting the kids settled down near the end of the night or earlier, it works great. It was a fun night and its always great the see everyone.

October Marbles
OCTOBER MARBLES AT THE CASHMAN’S
We hosted one of the Marbles games on October 6, 2018 with five
Couples in attendance. Our guests were Jack & Jacqui Schaefer, Lee and Marian Anderson, Brett and Lynne Barnes, Bob and Sherry Kuhr. We had a great assortment of snacks to munch on which were enjoyed by all and then the fun began with the marbles. As the evening progressed, there were several moans and groans over not getting good cards to make the moves they wanted but all in all we all had a fun time. Lynne Barnes was our top winner. It was fun getting together with our friends and we look forward to the Marble season and making some more good memories.Cal & Jan Cashman

October Social – Detroit Velodrome (Bike Racing and Bar)
October 2018
Being part of a social club that gets together as much as we do and have so many found memories and experiences, the task of finding something new and different for us to experience is great. However, our wonderful city of Detroit has landed us just the opportunity. As our city continues to come back and bring in new and exciting events, the Lexus Velodrome is one of them. There are videos and postings on line at Facebook (link below)
https://www.facebook.com/LexusVelodrome/
Competitive bike racing in Detroit Michigan? Absolutely! What goes with watching people race on a track with 15 to 50 degree embankments? PIZZA – Cottage Inn Pizza to be exact. The SPOKEEASY bar, (located on the infield of the track) has suites where we will sit in comfortable couches and chairs watching the races either as they go around the track (up to 50 miles an hour) or on a big screen TV located in our suite where Cottage Inn Pizza will be delivered right to us. (Not included in price) order off menu. There is also a great selection of adult beverages at the bar just a few steps from the suite. The races take place from 7:30 to 9:30 on October 13. The bar stays open till about 11:00 for those that would like to just hang out. There is free parking at Carson High school right behind the Velodrome at Mack Rd off I-75. Depending on count, cost will range from $5 to $15 dollars per person + own food and beverages. Hope to see you there.

Description from the Velodrome
Bike riding just became a year-round thing INSIDE the Lexus Velodrome, the newest addition to Detroit’s sport scene. Upon approach to the highly visible dome at Mack & I-75, you will first hear a rumble that becomes a roar the moment you step inside. More than a dozen bike racers, on bikes with no brakes, fearlessly face the challenge of 50 degree banking and wildly fast speeds as they negotiate the 1/10th mile cycling oval in hotly contested weekend races. Spectators enjoy an up close experience around the track’s elevated skywalk or seated comfortably in infield suites. Put us on your bucket list – to watch, to ride, to come inside the Lexus Velodrome.
