    June President’s Message

Happy Father’s Day to all of the dads of Tri-V. I hope you have a nice, relaxing Sunday. I realize my President’s Message is a week late (The paper went out last Sunday) so I apologize for that.
We have already had a busy month as a club. The golf league has just wrapped up the first half and will begin the second half tomorrow. If you couldn’t make the first half of golf, you can still get in on the second half. There is a morning group that usually tees off around 10 and the regular league tees off at 4:30.
We held our final pinochle and marbles event at ComedySportz Detroit, an improv comedy theater in Ferndale. From all accounts, it was a fun time. Thanks to Matt Hoffman for setting this event up.
Friday evening we held an initiation for new club member Chris Demick. Twelve members attended this event at the VFW hall in Wixom. We had a great meal of steak, potatoes, beans, and salad. Thanks to Brian for setting everything up and to Dale for perfectly cooking the steaks. Welcome Chris, glad to have you aboard.
Next weekend we will have the family event at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica. We will be taking in a baseball game. The field is new and beautiful, the baseball is entertaining, and there are a lot of things for the kids to do. This should be a fun event for the kids and the adults. If you have not yet reserved a ticket, give Mike a call. I think he may have a few more to sell.
Enjoy this beautiful weather we’re having. Happy Summer!

    Final Golf

We have again booked rooms and tee times for up to 32 men at Lakewood Shores Resort, “Home of The Gailes” for arrival on Friday, August 17, 2018, and departure on Sunday, August 19, 2018, in Oscoda, MI
Unlike last year we are planning meals a little differently. We are looking at ordering Pizza for dinner one night and the other night having dinner together in the dining room. I think it will make the most sense to just pay for our meal individually.
The estimated cost for this will be $320 which will include 2 night’s hotel, three rounds of golf and dinner one night and all of the prize money.
If possible, we would like to have a deposit of $150.00 pp from people by the open house on May 13, 2017 to Mike Trachsel or Jeff Trachsel. If you need more time on the deposit just let us know ASAP so we can get an accurate total.
The current plan for golf is:
Friday……….. 18 holes of golf and cart on “The Serradella” starting at 11:01
Format: Individual/Choose the best drive in your group and play your own ball from there.
Saturday ……. 18 holes of golf and cart on “Blackshire” starting at 10:10
Format: Team/Modified Better Ball – Choose the best drive in your group and play your own ball from there. The lowest three team member scores added together will count for the team score
Sunday ………. 18 holes of golf and cart on “The Gailes” starting at 10:10
    Format: Team/Scramble
We will also have unlimited use of the 18 hole pitch and putt course, The Wee Links, which is located directly behind the hotel. We can also bring corn hole, washer toss etc. and play out back of our rooms.
    Your Committee,
    Mike, Matt V and Jeff

    John Lardin updates

Larry and Kim Lardin closed on their home in Corpus Christi, TX. After completing many updates, they will move in sometime in July.

John had his hip surgery on June 4, came out of recovery at 12:30 p.m., had him up walking by 3:30 p.m. The next day he went up and down 14 steps. John came home June 5–we got home at 1 p.m. John’s older sister, Patricia Evans, passed away early the morning of June 5. John and Judy saw her on Saturday prior to John’s surgery–not sure she even knew we were there. John did make it to her funeral which was held on Friday, June 8–long trip and exhausting for him but he has since recovered.

John will have home nurse visits one or two times a week and has in home therapy 3 times a week, Mon., Wed., and Fri. The therapist will also see him on June 25 prior to John’s doctor appointment with surgeon on June 26 at which time he will be released for outpatient therapy.

On the bright side Windsor Casino has settled their labor dispute and John is looking forward to seeing Yanni on June 29 and hopefully John will be golfing soon.

We thank you for all your prayers, cards, phone calls, and visits. Please continue with the prayers. THEY DO WORK. Once John sees the surgeon, he will contact oncologist to determine when John should start chemo again.

    June Memories

MEMORIES FROM THE JUNE 2008 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH

Art Trachsel was scheduled for knee surgery on July 8 and there are hopes that it will not be a full knee replacement but correction to the knee cap. John Lardin suffered an unknown heart attack May 15 and fortunately the heart healed itself by making a collateral artery. We asked all to remember both Art and John in your prayers as they are both fighters and will not give up. Peg and Bob were preparing to spend their first full summer in Fl. Things did not start out good for Bob as he fell twice but fortunately recovered with no damage from both falls. Jacqui and Jack Schaefer returned from their two week tripto Japan to see daughter Stacy and their two grandchildren. Lots of people, bowling, shoes off, trains, subways, bikes, walkers and lots of markets. A fun filled two weeks but always good to get back home. Andrea Trachsel, daughter of Jeff, has been accepted into the nursing program at Henry Ford Community College. We wish her much success. Shirley and Bill Suchner, along with son, Bill and his wife Michelle make a trip to DeKalb IL to attend a Memorial Service for Brother ray, our founder of Tri-V. The Tri-V family picnic was set for July 27 at Mettala Park, Wixom, and the Steak Roast set for August 9 also at Mettala Park. Final Golf was set for the weekend of August 16-18 at Kendallville, IN. May Open House was held on May 10 at Gateway Golf Course, Romulus with 34 golfers playing a four-man scramble and the Tri-V Wives Spring Dinner was held on May 21 at Brass Point Restaurant, Farmington Hills with 11 ladies in attendance.

MEMORIES FROM THE JUNE 2013 ISSUE OF TRI-V UMPH

We are sorry to report on the passing of Esther Chamberlain at the age of 91. She was the spouse of longtime member Jack Chamberlain. New additions to the Tri-V family include Nicholas Burke, son of Kim and Dave Burke on May 17, and Stella VanHollebeke, daughter of Kali and Matt VanHollebeke born on May 30. Art Dushary had his recent check-up and Dr. Joe said he removed all the cancer and no further treatment needed. Judy and John Lardin had a busy May month. Judy finally sold her mom’s house and is hoping to close by the end of June. They made a trip to IL on May 14 as John was confirmation sponsor for Judy’s great niece. Their next trip was to Texas on June 2 to visit son, Larry and family at the timeshare for a week in Houston. This being the anniversary, unfortunately only 10 anniversary greetings appeared in print. Upcoming events include the Anniversary party on June 21 at the AM VETS hall, Westland; The Tri-V picnic on July 13 at Heritage Park, Farmington and Final Golf the weekend of August 16-18 in Gaylord, MI.

This wraps up another trip down Memory Lane. It was in 2008 the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup. Think back five or ten years ago as you read this issue of the Tri-V Umph. Perhaps there were things that took place in our lives, some good and some not so good, but they are still memories. Think of them and share them with your family members and friends. It might be a wedding you attended or an anniversary you celebrated or a birthday but still a precious memory. Don’t let the memories become lost. Continue to share them with others. Until we see you in print next month, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.
