UPDATE ON JOHN LARDIN
John had his first cat scan since he started the chemo in June. Unlike a sore knee or cold you have no idea if the chemo is working until you have a cat scan. I am happy to say that the power of prayer does work. The stage 4 cancer in the liver is stable which is great news.
What if boils down to is the chemo is working and the cancer has not spread further in the liver. The med staff is completely happy. Was told that John will always have the cancer but after the 6 month treatment ending in Dec. they believe he will begin a chemo maintenance treatment that might be just taking a pill. All will be decided after he has another cat scan in Dec. We ask you to continue to remember John in your prayers. THEY DO WORK.

2016-2017 Pinochle
TRI-V PINOCHLE 2016-2017
Pinochle for the season will start on Saturday, October 15. Pinochle will be played on the third Saturday of the month, unless notified. We will be playing in individual homes.
1. Starting time will be 6:30 p.m., unless notified by the host. The host will collect and keep $3.00 per guest. The host provides cards, ice and snacks. Guests are to bring their own drinks and a dish to share for the evening.2. Each host will receive tallies and schedules. Hosts will number the tallies. All players will draw from the same group of numbered tallies. Your partner may be a man or woman. The number of your tally will coincide with the schedule. The schedule provides information on partners and tables. Each player will play six games. Make sure your name is on the tally. Put your partner’s number on the tally for each round. This is for checking scores, if necessary.
3. Reneges should always be corrected if possible. If unable to correct and the bidding team is guilty, the bidder is set. If unable to correct and the renege is not made by the bidding team, then the bid is automatically made.
4. The prize money will be based on the number of couples playing that evening. $3.00 PRIZE money will be collected from ALL players. Prize money will be distributed at the end of the evening.
5. If a hand is opened, re-bidding is allowed. Bidding ends when three (3) consecutive passes have been made AFTER the last bid. If you pass, you may re-enter the bidding. For example, you may wish to give your partner a meld bid, if he bids after you have already passed.
6. Guests who cannot play MUST, give three days notice to Jacqui or Vickie. If not, they will be responsible for their night’s expense of $3.00 to the host.

John Lardin
OCTOBER TRIFLES
John Lardin continues to have his good days and bad days. Latest setback was on Wed, Sept. 28th, when John took a nasty spill when getting in the car in the rain. He was leaving the Schaefer’s and in the rain did not quite get the car door open wide and his feet got tangled and down he went, ended with a small abrasion on his head, sore shoulder, waist, buttocks and knee. As of this writing things are getting better but he is still sore. He had his cat scan on the 28th also and hopefully will know the results next week. The blood test with his visit to his primary Dr. on the 27th indicated his liver numbers were improving so that is a good sign. On Wed, Oct. 5th, Judy and John will be making a trip to TX to visit Kim, Larry and the grandchildren. They will be returning on the 10th. It has been a year since they saw the TX family and all are excited.

OCTOBER MEMORIES
MEMORIES FROM THE OCTOBER 2006 TRI-V UMPH
Once again our prayers were needed for members of the TRI-V Family. Ray Suchner, our founder, underwent a procedure where they put two stints into the valves of his heart. Jim DeLanoy was diagnosed with Merkel Cell Carcinoma, an aggressive skin cancer, on his left cheek, just in front of his ear lobe. Since it was discovered early the doctors were able to remove it and this was followed by 32 radiation therapy treatments. Nick Angelosanto’s mother was again in the hospital with pneumonia and congestive heart failure. She has had repeated stays at the hospital this year for the same thing. John Lardin had both knees replaced and was up sitting in a chair that afternoon following surgery. Two days later they had him walking with a walker and the following day had him going up one and down one step. Art Trachsel’s stepson, Ron Doebler, was diagnosed with shingles the day before his oldest daughter gave birth to this first granddaughter and Art’s second great granddaughter. Kaylie Snow, granddaughter of Jacqui and Jack Schaefer, and Christine Lardin, granddaughter of Judy and John Lardin, were both hit by a car in the same week. Kaylie was hit at the Meijer parking lot and Christine was hit by a car that jumped the curb, hit a stop sign then left the scene. Fortunately both girls were not seriously hurt. Other news shared was Dorothy and Cy Richeson attending the wedding of their granddaughter in Brighton, Mike Lardin successfully passed the certification test for Low Pressure Boiler Operator for the Plymouth-Canton Schools. Judy and John Lardin, Peg and George Hoffman, Jack Schaefer and Judy’s brother-in-law spent a couple of days in IN, the site of final golf, playing some golf and Diane and Ken Plocharczyk are in the process of buying a lake front lot in Sugar Springs development near West Branch and Judy and John Lardin spending a week in TX visiting Larry and the family. While Shirley and Bill Suchner were headed to Lorton VA and the Amtrak Auto Train to take them and their car to FL the end of October, Vickie Battel, mother of Vickie Angelosanto remained in MI braving the cooler temperatures. Vickie’s sister, Marihelen, is coming to MI the day after Thanksgiving for the weekend and take Mom back wither to AZ.
John Mackson has been promoted to head coach of the boys’ varsity basketball team at Kennedy High School in Taylor. Final Golf was held at Kendallville IN with 29 members and two guests attending the weekend. There was an article with the final cost for the 70th TRI-V Anniversary Party to be held at McGuire’s Resort in Cadillac MI the weekend of June 23, 2007.
MEMORIES FROM THE OCTOBER 2011 TRI-V UMPH
Our TRI-V Family was in pretty good health though a few of the Family could use some prayers. Jacqui Schaefer Knee surgery went well and now she was on the recovery mode. Her latest visit to the Dr. was to be her last for a year. Mike Lardin put a scare into Judy and John. While they were at Caesars in Windsor with the Andersons. Connollys and Brian Trachsel they got a call from Mike that he was having chest pains and left arm/shoulder along with his color not looking good. Final results after a stay overnight and test showed all his numbers were good and he suffered no heart problem and all might have been related to stress. Jan and Cal; Cashman spent five days in the Smokey Mountains. Their week was filled with great shows including variety, comedy and music, site seeing and food. Kirk Trachsel made it to Gladwin to spend time with Art Trachsel and Diane and Ken Plocharczyk and celebrate Art’s 91st birthday. Art continues to do well in his assisted living apartment playing bingo, wii bowling and is the resident expert on all things sports, especially the Detroit Tigers. There was an article on the Wives’ Outing in Sep. to Frankenmuth attended by 15 ladies and the Oct. Stag attending the coaching debut of John Mackson and is U of M Dearborn taking on Indiana University-South Bend and the Nov. Social will be a picture tour of Detroit and surrounding area. Pinochle scores for the first play had Judy Lardin in first place with 28 points, Jerry Gies and Bill Trachsel tied for second place with 25.5 points and Brian Trachsel in fourth place with 23 points. 2001 John Mackson promoted to a basketball coaching job, five years later (2006) John Mackson promoted to a basketball coaching job, five years later (2011) John Mackson promoted to a basketball coaching job. Will there be a coaching job in John’s future for 2016.
This wraps up another trip down Memory Lane. With school just starting I sit back and enjoy the excitement of granddaughter Alyssa as she comes home from first grade wanting to tell all that happened that day in school. Do you ever think back to when your children or grandchildren were in school and the excitement them showed about school? These are precious memories we all have and should take the time to share with our family and friends. Until we see you in print next month, the Good Lord willing, take care of one another.
