    October President’s Message

October is upon us. The baseball season is winding down and the playoffs will be starting next week. Hopefully we will have a few more Tiger games to watch after this weekend. I’m not quite ready to let go. I’m also not quite ready to tune in to the Lions.

This month we will begin both marbles and pinochle leagues and we will have our October stag event. Many of us are once again bowling on Tuesday nights at Drakeshire. October is a busy month of getting together so enjoy those times spent with friends and TriV family.

Finally, I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who was there as we laid to rest my grandfather. It was nice to hear stories and share memories of a life well lived. He will be missed, but those memories will live on.

    Marbles Rules

Marbles will be played on the first Saturday of each month beginning in October through March. Each night of Marbles will include three games of Marbles. Each player will pay $3.00 for the night. A season long prize will be awarded for those who would like to participate. To participate you must tell the committee that you are interested and pay the $5.00 fee. The prize money will be distributed to the top 1/3 of players based on points. The points will be for the top five scores for the season as shown below.

Please bring your own beverage. The host may determine if couples should bring appetizers or if other food will be arranged (i.e. everyone chip in for pizza).

Marbles will be played with two teams of three, if there are six players on the board or two teams of two if there are four players on the board. Cards will be drawn to determine on which board a player will be playing. A draw of marbles will determine partners. As an example if there are twelve players at a house six kings and six queens will be spread face down and drawn by the players. The host will determine which table will be the one designated by the king or queen. Once at the correct table one of each color marble will be separated and drawn by the players to determine teams. Red always deals first.

Each game is expected to take approximately one hour to play. It is recommended that play begins early in order to be able to finish at a reasonable time. Kid friendly houses should probably begin early. The normal start time is 6:30 but can be earlier at the host’s option. The host may decide to play on a different day or at an earlier time, however, because of scheduling it would be best to arrange that several weeks prior to allow for schedule conflicts.

    Nightly pay out

    • Each member of the winning team $1.00
    • First individual to get all his/her marbles safely home $1.00
    • Second individual to get all his/her marbles safely home $1.00

Any money left will be paid out on most points as follows:

If $9.00 is left If $6.00 is left If $3.00 is left
    1st in point $5.00 1st in points $3.00 1st in points $2.00
    2nd in points $3.00 2nd in points $2.00 2nd in points $1.00
    3rd in points $1.00 3rd in points $1.00

Season long prizes will be based on points as described below.
    Points are determined as follows:

    • If you a member of the winning team 3 points
    • First to get all your marbles safely home 2 point
    • Second to get all your marbles safely home 1 point

    Arthur Trachsel

Many of you know that my Dad, Art Trachsel, went to his heavenly home on August 20th, 2016. He was 95 years old and was the oldest member of TriV at the time. Although he was not an original member, I believe he joined in the late 1930’s or very early 40’s. TriV Club was one of Dad’s greatest joys and our family has been blessed by being part of the TriV family for over 70 years. Brother Kirk, Ken and I thank all of you for your prayers, cards and support during this time.

Love, Ken and Diane Plocharczyk (Trachsel) and Kirk Trachsel
